Whithorn Bravehearts Boxing Club travelled to Irvine Vineburgh ABC last Friday to compete in their first boxing event this season.

Tyler Jolly was the first in the ring against popular local lad Charlie “Chico” Jackson. Jolly weathered an early storm with great footwork, blocks and fast and furious counter-punches that caught the eyes of the judges and when the final bell sounded, the referee raised his arm, much to the appreciation of the travelling support.

In the penultimate bout, Braveheart Ryan Fairhurst took on David McPike, from the Barn ABC in Glasgow. This proved to be a non-stop battle from the first bell, as both boxers were throwing power shots.

Over the next nine minutes, there was a show of gladiator strength and determination, with McPike going down in the third round after a powerful right hook from Fairhurst.

He got back to his feet to finish the bout, but the eagerly-awaited unanimous decision gave victory to Fairhurst.
