Newton Stewart Golf Club can officially announce funding by the Big Lottery; Awards For All, which is a small grants fund supported, by the National Lottery Fund and Sports Scotland.

The scheme makes awards of between £500 and £10,000 to grass roots community groups and voluntary organisations.

The successful funding will allow practice facilities at the club to be improved for adults and juniors; thus encouraging membership and the development of the club. The award will provide practice bays, new practice putting area and funding for coaching. Presently, funding for junior development is being provided by ‘Clubgolf ‘Scotland through PGA professional Chris Robinson; ably assisted by club member, coach, Jordon Whiteside.

The Junior Development Programme, which is held on a Friday evening’s, commenced in April and now has thirty two members.

The new practice facilities will allow individual and group coaching sessions. The success of various programmes for young players in the past has now provided Newton Stewart Golf Club with the South of Scotland Boys Champion in 2013 David McCreadie, and this years champion Robert Hughan.

The committee have worked hard throughout the season to encourage new members and another ‘Give it a Go’ evening is planned for Friday 15th August 6.15pm. The Golf Club and the course is a vital asset to the community contributing to the attractions for visitor footfall in South West Scotland.

The clubhouse can also provide facilities for letting and hire, to groups, individuals and for private functions.
