THE Stranraer and District Sunday League Port William Cup Final finally got underway last Sunday afternoon.

Thistle Inn 3 Port William 2

Postponed from the week before the final between Port William and Thistle Inn ended with a 3-2 victory for Thistle, but they had to hold on for grim death near the end.
Thistle got off to a fantastic start, dominating the first half. Their first goal was an absolute screamer from Micky McClory and before the end of the half Alastair McIntyre had scored a second to give Thistle a comfortable lead.
The writing looked to be on the wall for Port William when Richard McCulloch made it 3-0 early in the second half, but the Port William players didn't let their heads go down for a moment. Ross McCrindle scored their first goal with 20 minutes to go and with ten minutes left on the clock Dobby McCreadie scored a second.
From then till the final whistle Port William threw everything at Thistle looking for the equaliser, but with Thistle pulling everyone back to defend, it was not to be.
This Sunday will be the Sunday League's last game when the Paul McCreadie Memorial Trophy final is contested at Belmont, Achtrelure, between Port William and Whithorn. Kick-off is at 1.30 pm.
There will also be a raffle at half-time with all the proceed going to the Macmillan Palliative Care Unit at the local hospital.
