Newton Stewart's Mark McCulloch got back to winning ways on last Saturday's Speyside Stages which was held in the forests around Elgin and Huntly.

With heavy rain for most of the day making the forest roads very slippery, Mark seemed to relish in the treacherous conditions and ended the rally with a very comfortable and convincing win by over two and a half minutes from the second placed car.

Driving his Creebridge House Hotel/David Hardie Engineering/
Signright Graphix backed Peugeot 205 Gti along with co-driver Craig Wallace, he led the Brick and Steel Ecosse Challenge section of the event from start to finish.

Mark commented: "This has probably been my best result of the year. The car never missed a beat all day and the new suspension that had been fitted before the rally made the handling perfect".
He also won Class 3 and was First Junior on this Scottish Rally Champioship round.
With three rounds of both championships left to go he is now back leading both and hopes to continue his success for the rest of the season
His next event will be on home soil when the Scottish Championship moves to Newton Stewart for the Merrick Forst Stages on the 7th September.
Another Newton Stewart driver, Craig McMiken, who farms at Upper Barr, and co-driver Christine Sanderson of Berwick, went into the weekend keen to improve on their 17th place on the previous round, the "Scottish", at the end of June.
The pair lost a bit of time on the opening two short spectator runs on tarmac through Cooper Park in the centre of Elgin, before heading out to the six forest stages.
Craig said: "The first gravel stage we really struggled for grip going from one side of the road to the other, but amazingly we set a pretty good time".
He added: "The grip improved from that stage onwards, and on the sixth stage, which was fast and flowing, we were 7th equal overall - and only beaten by one car in our class - which we were really pleased about".
