Galloway Country style welcomed Glasgow Accies to the Gatehouse of Fleet cricket ground on Saturday as their 2008 season finally got underway.

The groundsman had been in some doubt as to the possibility of the game being played but he need not have worried as the pitch provided close to 300 runs in an entertaining encounter.
Visiting skipper Dungon called wrong at the toss of the coin and home skipper Druce had not hesitation in asking the visitors to bat first.
The visitors started cautiously but soon lost wickets and at 24 for 2 Galloway were begining to sense a real breakthrough. The Accies skipper had other ideas though as he anchored his side's innings to steer them to an unlikley 169 for 9 off thier alloted 50 overs. Druce and Chaudhary both claimed three wickets each.
Galloway's reply started badly as Foster succumbed first ball but 13-year-old Fraser Conn and visiting player Sachin Chaudhary soon took control and things went smoothly for the home side reaching 42 for 1 without much ado.
That all changed when both Galloway's main batsmen departed the scene before the team's score had reached 50. Will Gorman and Howie Bradley restored some hope for the home side with a 40 stand but both departed to catches to leave Tim Keyworth and Jon Adams to show their mettle which they did to a large degree and although Galloway were fighting a rearguard action they almost forced the draw falling nine balls short when Henry Conn was bowled with Galloway on 126, still 43 short.
St Michaels of Dumfries are the opponents this Saturday as the locals make the trip to Kingholm.
