THE sport of bowling is seeing something of a renaissance in a Wigtownshire village after a local developer injected some colour into the game.
Garlieston Harbour has funded the purchase of three new sets of coloured bowls for the local club, after members approached them for help to attract more children to the game. Now around half a dozen youngsters, aged between 10 and 15, from the small fishing village have taken to the 'green' at Garlieston Bowling Club.

Anne MacDonald, wife of the club president, said: "Getting the funding from Garlieston Harbour for the coloured bowls has really boosted the club. It's important to get the youth interested in the sport, and already we've seen about half a dozen try it out."

Roger Smith, managing director of Garlieston Harbour commented: "We were delighted to help out the club, and in doing so help attract more young people from the village into the sport. I'm really pleased to see that already this one gesture is making an impact. "

A development of apartments, townhouses and listed buildings, Garlieston Harbour also recently supported the village gala day, and helped fund the new tourist sign just erected to encourage visitors to turn into the village.
