THEY say age is no barrier to having fun. And if any further proof of that were needed, you’d have to look no further than Baird Matthews.
This week the 87-year-old from Newton Stewart became the oldest person to use the UK’s longest zip wire.
Baird became the most senior zipper when he decided to try out the adrenaline-fuelling wire which zooms down the hill towards Fleet Bay at the Laggan Outdoor complex.
And in the same week, the centre welcomed two high-profile visitors from VisitScotland: the tourist authority’s chairman Mike Cantlay and Paula McDonald, regional director for the south of Scotland.
They stopped by for a quick zip on what has become one of the region’s biggest outdoor attractions since opening last month.
Galloway’s latest addition to the adventure tourism market has already inspired a group from as far as Pakistan to visit the area specifically to try out the unique thrill.
