Youngsters raising casg for Duke of Edinburgh trip

FIVE young people from the Cairnsmore Duke of Edinburgh group are organising fundraising events throughout Mid Galloway to raise funds towards their voyage on the Ocean Youth Trust.

The yacht sets sail from Oban in July this year and together with other young people from across Scotland, our local sailors will be learning vital sea skills and participate in activities to develop confidence, respect, team work and responsibility.

Jack McClymont, Eloise Vance, Adrian Collings, Kuba Sobzak and Rachel Mills are all gold award participants, having already completed bronze and silver levels. As part of their award over the past two years these young people have volunteered their time with a number of groups and organisations as their service to community and continue to support younger Duke of Edinburgh participants through their awards.

So far the group have sold quiz sheets, volunteered as waiters and waitresses at Whithorn ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘ night, held a lucky tickets draw and organised a ladies night. They are extremely grateful to the Holywood Trust, Whithorn Charity Shop and Isle of Whithorn Sailing Club for their kind donations.

The next event is a ‘Quiz and Curry’ night to be held in the Monreith Arms, Port William on Friday 6th April at 6.30pm. Entry fee is £5 per person and teams of four. To reserve a table please call 01988 500 364 or 01671 40 3261.
