SIX young people from the Newton Stewart area were presented with certificates by Councillor Sandra McDowall after completing a seven-week Safer Young Drivers Course.
The course was funded through the Mid Galloway Community Safety Forum and Road Safety Partnership and was designed to teach young people driving theory and hazard perception skills before sitting their test.
It included practical workshops such as basic car maintenance, emergency first aid, law and legislation input from the Police, driving simulator, seatbelt convincer and a Road Traffic Collision extrication demonstration by the Fire Service.
Councillor McDowall sai: “The participants have shown a great deal of commitment to the course and have clearly enjoyed being part of it. If just one young person learns something from this and it influences their future driving attitude, it will all have been worthwhile. The next course is being held in Wigtown, and I hope as many young people benefit the next time round.”
