WHITHORN Primary School will be defending their title as winners of Xmas Factor after they were announced as finalists in the region-wide competition.

Along with Twynholm Primary, Whithorn will travel to Gretna Gateway Outlet Village on 11 December to sing for the title, up against Eaglesfield, St Michael’s and St Mungo schools.

Now in its third year, the competition is open to all primary schools in Dumfries and Galloway. A record number of entries was received this year with ten schools making it through to the initial competition shortlist.

Last week, carols sung by each of the shortlisted schools were played on West Sound’s Bruce @ Breakfast Show and the public were able to vote for their favourite five via the West Sound website.

The schools will now compete in a live sing-off and the winning school will receive a trophy and a cheque for £500. The four runners up will each receive cheques for £50 and a special certificate.

Bruce McKenzie from West Sound said: “Once again we’ve seen thousands of people logging onto our website to vote in this year’s Xmas Factor. The choirs were all great and the response has been amazing. We’ve obviously got talent galore here in Dumfries and Galloway and West Sound is really pleased to be a part of this great competition.”
