Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 December: The Help, showing at The Cinema, Newton Stewart.
The Help is a 2011 comedy-drama film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel of the same name. The word on the grapevine is that the film is a candidate for an Oscar nomination next year. The film is about a young white woman, Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, and her relationship with two black maids during Civil Rights era America in the early 1960s.
Skeeter decides to write a book about The Help, the black maids who work for white families in the area.
It’s a moving story and is funny with a fizzy dialogue and very much recommended.
