A warning has gone out to friends paying tribute to Newton Stewart teenager Kieran Currie who died after being struck by a passing lorry on the busy A75 at the weekend.

Scores of floral tributes and messages are being left on the roadside opposte Calgow Farm, just west of Newton Stewart, where the 19-year old was hit at 2.40am on Saturday morning while on his way home from a party.

But now concerns are being raised about people congregating at the spot to read the messages and lay flowers.

Several drivers have commented that those attending the site, on a corner and accessible by a cycle path from Newton Stewart, are parking on the verges by the Euro-route’s roadside to get closer and causing a hazard to passing motorists approaching the corner.

A memorial Facebook page on to Kieran, who was taken to hospital following the collision on the dark stretch of road but later died, has also sent out a plea to his friends to use the appropriate pathways if visiting the spot, and avoid stepping onto the busy road.

Police are yet to trace the lorry and driver involved and are appealing for anyone driving in the area at the time to come forward.
