NEWTON Stewart Walking Festival was officially launched last week at Cunningham’s Outdoor Centre in the town.

The 2012 festival, taking place on 11 to 17 May, will take in the usual popular walks for its 10th anniversary and is now firmly established as the biggest walking festival in the south west.

There will be 28 walks over seven days, fully-guided walks for all abilities, hill routes guided by Galloway Mountain Rescue Team, linear, coastal and themed walks, social events throughout the week and transportation.
