Two Machars projects receive funding boost

CASH has been granted towards floodlights for Wigtown’s multi use games area.

The sum of £9,500 was approved by Wigtown Area Committee last week, which will cost a total of £24,000. Match funding has been applied to the project through Awards for All with contributions from Youthlink Scotland making up the difference.

A report to councillors said that the lights would reduce anti social behaviour in Wigtown and allow the facility to be used year-round.

Planning permission is still required before the project can progress.

PLANS for a footbridge in Garlieston to connect the school to the playing field took a step further last week after Wigtown Area Committee approved funding of £7,100.

The footbridge, costing a total of £24,300, must start by 31 March in order to secure already allocated funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

Cash has been secured from the community council and Wigtown Area Committee but the project will require planning permission before it can proceed.
