The year for Machars Young Farmers’ Club has started on a high by achieving Club of the Year at Dumfries and Galloway district level which took place on March 21.
The club was well represented by members Bobby Landers and Colin Ferguson. This puts Machars through to compete at national level, which will take place in May with the announcment of the overall winning club being named at the Royal Highland Show in June.
A new year began for the club at the AGM on Sunday, March 11, after a very enjoyable dinner dance the evening.
The new chairman is Colin Ferguson, and his office-bearers are Tom Bell, vice-chairman; Robert Templeton, treasurer; Chloe McCornick, assistant treasurer; Libby Templeton, secretary; and Simon McCornick, assistant secretary. The committee is made up of Bobby and Kirsty Landers, Rowan Hurst, Mark McCornick, Lynn, Kirsty and Willa Wilson.
Machars YF is hoping to see an eventful year with many activities to encourage new members as well as present and past members.
The first event to kick off the summer syllabus is the new members’ night at Kirkinner Hall, at 7pm on Sunday, April 8. It would be great to see many new faces coming along to get involved with young farmers.
The club is also currently purchasing new club hoodies at a cost of £25. This amount includes your membership and they are available to anyone in a range of colours: navy, pink, orange or white. If interested in ordering, please contact the secretary, Libby, on 07785786155.
Other events to look out for in the year ahead are stockjudgings (beef, sheep and dairy), a farm walk and plenty of sports nights, to name just a few of the club’s activities.
If anyone is interested in joining Machars YFC, contact Colin Ferguson on 07825638584 or Libby Templeton on 07785786155.
