What do you get when you put a Kirkcudbright chef and a Newton Stewart primary school teacher together?

Obviously, the answer is a heavy metal radio programme.

Chris Walker, owner of the Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright, has been the presenter of the heavy metal radio programme ‘Heavier than Metal’ for a few years and recently brought on Penninghame Primary’s deputy head, Darren Andrews, who was a fan of the show.

Darren won a competition to have his playlist aired on Chris’ show for the nightand the duo was an instant hit with the listeners.

Such was the positive feedback, Darren now has a regular slot hosting the show on alternate Fridays to Chris.

The new-look format to the show will begin on Friday 5th June on Alive FM (based in Dumfries but available live online) and runs from 9-11pm. It will consist of up and coming bands, old and new songs from established bands, gig updates and interviews from promoters and band members.

You can catch the show on 107.3fm around Dumfries and stream it online every Friday.
