THE body of missing Stranraer student Carlus McNicoll has been found in the harbour area of Belfast Loch following weeks of searching for him.

The 24-year old was last seen on 8 January aboard the Stena ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast, but no trace of him could be found after this.

Police in both Scotland and Northern Ireland conducted a large-scale missing person’s enquiry and the body was discovered on Sunday.

Last week, the Glasgow Nautical student’s father made an emotional appeal for information on his son, saying that until it could be proven otherwise, he and the family believe Carlus to be alive and well.

A post mortem confirmed the cause of death as drowning.
