Stranraer man pleads not guilty to attack

A man accused of assaulting two pensioners in Stranraer plead not guilty to the offences when he appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Robert Garrett, 31, currently an inmate at Dumfries Prison, denied carrying out the attacks last August 8th.

The charges state that he pushed an 85-year-old woman on her body before entering her Parklea Gardens home with intent to steal.

A second charge claims two accused – namely Garrett acting with another – entered the home of the man on Belmont Road, pushed a 71-year-old man to the ground, struck him on the body, searched through his pockets and removed a wallet, struggled with him and robbed him of £280.

The court is due to set a trial date at a hearing next week but the sheriff heard the trial may be called in Dumfries instead of Stranraer.
