IT was unlucky Friday the 13th for a householder in the Rhins when three fire engines were called out to tackle a blazing home.
A spokesperson for the Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a report of a serious house fire near Stoneykirk, Stranraer last Friday, May 13 at approximately 11.30 in the morning.
“The Service sent three fire appliances, two from Stranraer, and one from Newton Stewart along with a specialist decontamination unit. Three Supervisory Officers were also mobilised to the incident.
“Firefighters quickly established that no person was in the property at the time of the fire but due to the presence of asbestos within the building structure and numerous gas cylinders present within the property, firefighting operations were conducted from a safe distance.
“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Police and Fire Service investigators.”
