The St Ninian’s Hall development at the Isle of Whithorn has been highly commended in the the Scottish Civic Trust “My Place Award” scheme. Janet Hannay, Chairman of the Galloway Preservation Society, and Ian and Jeanette Duncanson from the Isle of Whithorn received the award at a ceremony at the Lighthouse in Glasgow where Marco Biagi MSP, the Minister for Local Government, made the presentation.

The project involved an annexe to the existing Hall, as well as creating a new social space, restaurant, conference room, offices and gift shop for the community and visitors. The judges commended the local project for using locally sourced traditional building materials and involving the community in its design and management .
