Soccer star backs society

Marie Curie Ambassador and football pundit Chris Kamara has backed a Yorkshire Building Society football fundraiser in Newton Stewart which it hopes will shoot it towards its £1million target for the Hour of Need campaign.

The Society’s agency at Marr Financial Services, on Victoria Street, will be inviting customers and the public to become fundraising fans and support Marie Curie from Monday, June 27.

There will be a football sweepstake and guess the football sweets in a jar competition running throughout with week and a football-themed cake sale on Thursday and Friday with every £20 funding one hour of Marie Curie nursing care.

Chris Kamara, said: “There has been some unbelievable fundraising happening for Marie Curie, thanks to Yorkshire Building Society’s Hour of Need campaign. Customers and colleagues from around the country have so far helped to raise a fantastic £900,000 and with continued support, we can help them on their way to reaching their £1million goal.”

Gavin Marr of the Newton Stewart agency, said: “We’re so proud that customers in Newton Stewart have helped us make this the Society’s most successful ever national fundraising campaign. The Hour of Need campaign is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families and we will continue to raise even more money.”
