SNP candidate for Galloway and west Dumfries Dr Aileen McLeod was joined yesterday by minister for culture, Fiona Hyslop, for a tour of some of the region’s art galleries, meeting a number of local artists along the way.
Mrs McLeod said she was was delighted to have the minister visit the region which has a “huge range of outstanding artistic talent”.
“I want to be part of developing and supporting that talent and ensuring it reaches the global audience it so richly deserves, “ said Mrs McLeod.
“Exciting new ventures such as the nail factory in Dalbeattie are wonderful additions to the cultural landscape of this region, complimenting the established artistic and literary centres of Kirkcudbright and Wigtown.
“Not only is all of this work intrinsically valuable for its beauty, it has a real contribution to make to the vibrancy of our communities and to the local economy as an attraction for visitors.
“The SNP pledges to support our rising talent across Scotland. If elected MSP in May I will give my total support to this policy and ensure it is fully reflected across Galloway.”
