THE last results of the 2012 local election was Stranraer and North Rhins Ward where two familiar faces, Iain Dick, SNP and Willie Scobie, were re-elected. The third candidate returned was Marion McCutcheon, Labour.

At the first preference stage, the votes were:

Iain Dick Stranraer and North Rhins

Iain Dick Stranraer and North Rhins

Willie Scobie - 2067

Iain Dick - 450

Marion McCutcheon - 306

The total valid votes cast was 3310.

Willie Scobie stood as neither a party candidate nor an independent, as did his Wigtown West fellow Councillor Graheme Forster, who was also re-elected. Mr Scobie received a massive thumbs-up from the electorate with over 2,000 votes, three times more than his nearest rival.

He said: “Both Graheme Forster and myself will be standing up for the people we will be representing to the council and we will be voting on an issue by issue basis.

“We are overwhelmed by the massive support we got. The people have put their faith in us and we will try and live up to that.

“Graheme and I will now consider whether to form a party or not.”
