School embezzler avoids jail

A school secretary who embezzled thousands of pounds from school funds narrowly avoided a prison sentence on Tuesday at Stranraer court when she appeared for sentencing.

Margaret Breadon, aged 53, of Rocklea Avenue, Stranraer, was ordered to complete a Community Payback Order of 225 hours by Sheriff Kenneth Robb for what was described as a “fundamental breach of trust’.

The clerical assistant took the money over a period of time but had since paid back around £3000 to the school. Her lawyer Margo Nicol said that the accused realised the seriousness of what she had done and was still stuggling to understand how she had allowed this to happen.
