The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright held its 10th annual Spelling Bee at Kirkcudbright Primary School on Thursday the 15th of May.
Twenty eight pupils took part, with participants from Auchencairn, Borgue, Gatehouse, Twynholm and Kirkcudbright Primary Schools.
The pupils achieved a very high standard of spelling and the difficult task for the judges of selecting pupils for the second round became even harder once they had to choose the finalists.
The eventual winner was Scarlet Carter from Kirkcudbright Primary School, who spelt every word correctly throughout the evening. The runner up was Alistair Nicolas also of Kirkcudbright Primary School, who only made one mistake!
Kirkcudbright Rotary Club President Dr John Locke, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many pupils to the Spelling Bee this year, with representation from all schools in the Kirkcudbright cluster. I congratulate all of the children for taking part and achieving such a high standard.
“For those who are poor spellers I recommend my technique, as practiced by most Doctors: write so poorly that no one is sure if you have spelt words correctly or not.”
