LATE on Monday night, hardy souls from the area helped The One Show 1000 relay for Sport Relief as it passed from the Isle of Mull to London, which saw 1000 locals across the country run a mile each at their home locations.

Local athletes and staff from Sainsbury’s in Newton Stewart gathered to take part at 10.30pm and ran on dark roads.

And on Sunday, seven SPort Relief Miles will take place at various locations around Galloway and you can sign up to take part.

Whether you do 1, 3 or 6 miles – as a family team, with your mates or against the clock – it will all count towards helping youngsters in both the UK and abroad through the work of the Comic Relief team.

It’s just £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for a family of four. All milers are entitled to an exclusive 10 percent online discount at sportsdirect.com.
