Newton Stewart avoided the worst of the flooding on Thursday morning after the cree burst its banks - but not inits usual spot.

The town centre, for once, appeared to be safe following works to strengthen and fill the river’s retaining walls last year.

Water crept over the pathways and cycle routes along Riverside Walk south of Aldi but the Riverside car park stayed dry.

Thankfully, the waters began to recede throughout the afternoon but more unsettled weather was forecast for the coming days.
