Popular violinist Leland Chen returns to the region this weekend.
Chen will be playing Brahms Violin Concerto and Dvorak’s Romance with the region’s orchestra, the Solway Sinfonia, under its conductor, Gatehouse musician Geoff Keating, on Sunday, November 15.
A former pupil of Yehudi Menuhin and a long-standing tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Chen has now been invited to join the staff of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, so promising violinists from this area might find themselves fortunate enough to be taught by him there.
The concert will begin with Verdi’s Overture to his opera Nabucco (which includes the well-known Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) and will end with Borodin’s 2nd Symphony, full of exciting Russian dances and rhythms.
Tickets (available at the door or from 01387 261611) are £12, £6 for students and free for accompanied schoolchildren. It starts at 7.30 pm in the Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries.
