THE Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after a rabbit was found wandering by itself in Stranraer.

A member of the public found the rabbit by a road in the Limekiln area on Monday (7 March) and it is now being cared for at Dunragit Kennels where it has been named Fluffy.

Centre Manager Peter Baker said, “We think Fluffy is a young lion head cross. Fluffy is in good condition and is a very friendly bunny who enjoys being handled so has obviously been someone’s pet until now.

“It’s possible that Fluffy has escaped from a hutch. However, given the remote location the rabbit was found, it may have been dumped by its owner.

“Sadly, we have recently seen an increase in the number of unwanted and abandoned rabbits coming into our centre.

“Fluffy is one of eight rabbits currently in our care looking for a loving new home.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information regarding Fluffy should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
