Possible safety risk - small battery operated toy dogs

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Trading Standards Service is warning consumers to be aware of small soft toy dogs which operate by battery power which may have been purchased over the summer period, particularly at agricultural shows.

The toys have soft covering to a firm structure and a battery section on the underside of the toy. They may also have small hats or bells on the head of the toy. There is often a sticky label over the battery section with a CE Mark and suppliers name and address. These toys would generally be on open display without any packaging.

It is believed that these toys may have a problem with the facial features and other small parts in that they can easily be removed and pose a choking hazard to small children.

Councillor Colin Smyth, Chair of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee said;

“Our Council strives to provide the best start in life for all our children and this includes taking steps to ensure that toys and other goods offered for sale are safe.”

Consumers who have purchased anything of this description should remove it from their child and return it to the retailer if possible. Please contact the Trading Standards on 030 33 33 3000 for advice.
