Portpatrick Lifeboat launched but no rescue needed

THE Portpatrick RNLI lifeboat, John Buchanan Barr, was launched at 11.25pm last Thursday following a report from Clyde Coastguard of an unidentified flashing light at sea approximately 1.6 miles from Corswall Point.

RNLI volunteers launched the boat after a ferry had alerted the Coastguard but despite an extensive search lasting nearly two hours in moderate sea conditions, nothing was found.

After reporting nothing found, the Portpatrick lifeboat was stood down by Clyde Coastguard, and returned to base at 02.30am on Friday morning to be cleaned, refuelled and made ready for service.
