Bogus caller warning – Newton Stewart
Police are reminding members of the public to be aware of the dangers associated with bogus callers.
The warning comes after a local man received a call from a female claiming they were new crime prevention officers in the area and that he could be included in a crime prevention register for a cash amount. When told this would be impossible the female cut the conversation short.
Police advice is to never give out any personal or banking details to someone you do not know. Ask for any request in writing. Visit the company’s store or website. Research the person or company on the internet to see if they are genuine and speak to trusted friends, family and colleagues to see if they have heard of them. If you receive any suspicious call, take down as much detail about the caller as possible, such as name, accent, their telephone number and the company they claim to work for and hand into police.
