PLANS for a new supermarket in Newton Stewart will be unveiled next week ahead of a public exhibition to take place in the town.
CWP Group contacted The Galloway Gazette this week with information about building a potential new store, depending on public interest, but stressed that they do not yet have a named operator for it. However, the company said the supermarket would be located at Barnkirk Road in the town.
James Harbison from the group said: “We are really looking forward to unveiling our plans for Newton Stewart next Friday and hope as many people as possible can find the time to drop in since the views of the local community can help shape our plans.”
Speculation over the possible siting of the supermarket, for which it is believed a planning application is underway, had been rife with Barnkirk, Masonfield and land opposite Machermore the favourites, until CWP confirmed Barnkirk as the site.
“CWP has close links with all the major supermarket operators and a Sainsbury’s in Kelso is one of our most recent projects which opened last year.
“While we don’t have a named operator for Newton Stewart at this stage, we are confident we can deliver a major new supermarket for the local community should our plans be approved.”
The Cinema in Newton Stewart will host the event between 11am and 5.30pm and it’s open to all members of the public.
