Parts of Whithorn removed from conservation listings

PARTS of Whithorn have had their conservation area status removed following agreement by local councillors.

Glasserton Street and parts of Isle Street are now excluded due to their “more modern character” and the mid 20th-century redevelopment.

A report to councillors last week said that “Although the High Street forms the approach to the conservation area, the closure provided by the cottage at the end fo George Street, being the medieval ‘Port’, is a clear and definitive boundary for the revised conservation area.”

Councillors agreed at a meeting of Wigtown Area Committee last week to remove the listed areas.
