She said: “A total of 25 patients and three members of staff have been affected across two wards at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary since Friday 1 May.
“Ward 12 is currently closed due to confirmed Norovirus infection. Ward 18 is expected to reopen later today following appropriate terminal cleaning. Reports from the community indicate that this viral infection is circulating throughout Dumfries and Galloway at this time.
“The Infection Control Team continues to monitor the situation, and visitor restrictions are in place on the affected wards. Members of the public who have symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea are asked not to visit the hospital until 48 hours after symptoms have cleared.”
