DUMFRIES and Galloway is welcoming a new tourism chief with the appointment of a new Regional Director at the national tourism organisation, VisitScotland.

Paula McDonald has 14 years experience in the tourism industry with her expertise including business development, sales, marketing and PR and operations management. She will replace Sandi Hellowell, who has held the senior position in the region for the last three years.

Paula, who describes herself as a ‘truly proud Scot’, is keen runner, mountain biker, hill walker and food lover, looking to settle in the area with her partner early next year.

Paula said: “I am incredibly proud to have joined the team at VisitScotland to take on the role of Regional Director. I have regularly visited the region and am truly delighted by the diversity in this beautiful part of Scotland. We have breath-taking scenery, a world-class cultural scene and our local produce proudly sits as some of the best in Scotland. Working in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council and Destination Dumfries and Galloway will be key to succeeding in growing tourism in this region.
