The Riverside Day Centre has relocated to the Newton Stewart Centre (formerly The Hut) in Newton Stewart’s York Road after being hit by the floods.

The clients and staff have settled into the temporary accommodation until their usual meeting place, in the Riverside Car Park is renovated and made operational again. The former Hut was recently refurbished by Newton Stewart Initiative after a £10,000 grant from The Holywood Trust in Dumfries.

NSI spokesman David Inglis said: “We were really pleased to be able to offer the day centre the Newton Stewart centre. With the generous help of local companies and trades people, we have been able to provide a short term facility for public use. The recent flood have brought havoc to the town and has highlighted the fact that the town has no recognisable community hub building since the council closed the York Road facility. NSI will work hard to put this right.”
