A LAURIESTON-based photographer has scooped a top title in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards under its ‘abstract’ category.

Phil McMenemy of PMC Photography and the ‘Gallery at Laurieston’ submitted his photo called Swirl and beat off stiff competition to take the top prize for the section.

Phil said: “The image is one of those which I’ve had in my head for a few years and I was fortunate on this occasion for everything to come together to create the final image – it was one of those drooling moments, which as an artist don’t come along too often.”

He added: “Seeing the competition my image was up against in this Award makes me feel humble, grateful and a sense of acknowledgement for my endeavours – things like this make my work so worthwhile. I would also like to add my congratulations to all the other winners and those who were shortlisted.”
