THE annual National Schools Film Week is due once again in November and local schools are being encouraged to book in now.
With 570 cinemas taking part, Galloway pupils are lucky that two of these are in our area - Newton Stewart and New Galloway.
The festival’s aim is to offer a powerful, cinema-going experience for children which will link directly to elements of the curriculum, supported ny an online library of resources related to the film viewed.
Lisa Anderson, General Manager, Newton Stewart Cinema, said: “The benefit for our cinema taking part in National Schools Film Week is that the local community becomes aware that cinema usage is for all groups within the community. This is very important for us as our cinema is owned by the local people. Students learn from the cinema experience, dispelling the myth that viewing a film on a very large screen is the same as viewing a DVD at home.”
The programme will see the Cinema, Newton Stewart showing ‘Eleanor’s Secret’ and ‘Brave’on Monday, 5 November and The CatStrand in New Galloway showing ‘Jasper, Penguin Explorer’.
