It had been thought that a strong musical link between Kirkcudbright and Newton Stewart might be broken when, on Sunday, May 12, at Kirkmabreck Church, Creetown, the Newton Stewart Singers give their final concert under the baton of Carl Wiltse.
Carl, who lives in Kirkcudbright, has conducted the Singers since their formation in 2007, and his weekly drive between the two towns encouraged several members of the Kirkcudbright Choral Society to sing with both choirs.
During Carl’s farewell performance, the organ will be played by Gordon Mursell, a resident of Borgue near Kirkcudbright. And some of the Newton Stewart choristers travel to Kirkcudbright on Mondays to sing with the Choral Society. The fear that this would end with Carl’s resignation has now been allayed. Happily, the Singers’ Christmas concert is to be conducted by Michael Appleford, director of the Kirkcudbright Choral Society, thus ensuring the continuation of this musical link.
The concert is at 7.30pm. Tickets, £8, are available from choir members or at the door.
