Following the publication of Scottish Power’s revised proposals to upgrade the electricity system in Dumfries and Galloway, Local MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed Scottish Power’s commitment to further consultation and community engagement on their revised proposals.

The Galloway also thanked Scottish Power for listening to the concerns raised by local communities and bringing forward revised proposals that have addressed some of the issues raised.

Mr Carson said: “The revised changes show some very significant positive changse indeed and has gone some way to alleviate my constituent’s concerns. Not only is there a dramatic reduction in the amount of overhead lines that will be required, fewer substations will also be built.

“The full details of the proposals are still to be released but I am confident that these will be a step further in the right direction and I look forward to receiving them soon.

“I am particularly pleased that Scottish Power have taken on board the concerns of local people and communities and by doing so have demonstrated that consultation exercises are more than just a tick-box exercise.

“That these concerns were raised is in no small part down to the hard work of the action group, ‘Dumgal Against Pylons’ who put their case forward so eloquently.

“There is still work to be done to finalise the plans and I welcome Scottish Power’s commitment to conduct a further consultation exercise where local people will once again be able to feed in their views and have their say.

“I would urge as many people as possible to participate in this consultation but in the meantime, if you want to discuss any of these proposals with me please get in touch”.
