MSP welcomes commitment to south of Scotland

After asking the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, John Swinney MSP, what steps he can take to move the regeneration of Stranraer Waterfront forward, Galloway MSP Alex Fergusson got the answer he wanted.

Mr Fergusson said: “Having raised this ongoing issue with the Cabinet Secretary, I was pleased that he gave a commitment to meet with the South of Scotland Alliance every six months to ensure that Government departments are playing their full part in helping to regenerate our local economy. As it was his SNP Government that removed the redevelopment of Stranraer Waterfront from the national capital investment priority list, I think that’s the least he can do!”

“Nonetheless, I welcome this commitment which should give the Alliance – a grouping of the two Councils and Enterprise Agencies of Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders – the confidence to pursue their priorities with increased vigour. Stranraer and indeed Dumfries and Galloway deserve no less”.
