BARGRENNAN exchange is to be upgraded to allow better broadband for the rural community who have suffered from what some called a lack of commitment to the area by BT.
But now MSP Alex Fergusson has welcomed the news that BT will improve the exchange to allow for much faster broadband connections.
Speaking after the announcement, he said: “I am delighted that BT have taken the decision to upgrade the Bargrennan exchange so that broadband speeds of up to 8Mbps will be available. Residents will certainly notice a phenomenal change from the 0.5Mbps to which they currently have access, and small and micro businesses in the area will derive great benefit from this initiative – indeed this should encourage new businesses to the immediate area. Perhaps the biggest beneficiary will be the community of Glentrool, whose proposal to develop a ‘Forestlive Centre’ based in the former primary school will get a significant boost from this overdue, but nonetheless welcome, upgrade.”
