MEMBERS of staff at Stranraer’s Specsavers opticians raised £150 in November by growing a moustache for charity.
Optician Derek Michael and retail manager Paul Challis broke their clean-shaven habit by taking part in Movember – the annual fundraising drive to raise vital funds and awareness of men’s health.
The store organised a raffle to raise funds for the cause and customers helped generate cash by buying tickets.
Prizes on offer included a luxury Christmas hamper, won by Eileen MacKay from Kirkcolm and a return day trip for two to the Titanic Experience in Belfast, won by Louise Hanna of Stranraer.
The Christmas hamper was donated by staff at the store and the day trip was donated by Stena Line.
All the money raised in the Stranraer store will go to Prostrate Cancer UK, The Institute of Cancer Research and The Movember Foundation to reduce cancer deaths.
Store director Elaine Hawthorn said: “Derek and Paul have been really good sports and everyone in the store really got into the spirit of things to raise money for a great cause. “We would like to thank all of the staff for getting involved, everyone who donated prizes, and to everyone who bought raffle tickets.”
