The region’s now-legendary music festival, Wickerman, will play host to Motown superstars Martha Reeves and the Vandellas as one of its main acts, it was announced on Friday.
Festival organisers also confirmed UK chart-topper Dizzee Rascal as the Summerisle stage Friday night act in his only Scottish festival appearance this year, with slots also going to The Zombies, The Feeling and Big Country, among others, at the Dundrennan-based event.
The 1960s Motown legends, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, are set to deliver the group’s string of hits include Nowhere to Run, Heat Wave and Jimmy Mack. Their Wickerman appearance is part of Martha’s tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of their biggest hit, Dancing in the Streets.
Dizzee Rascal is best-known for his high-energy releases such as Bonkers, Fix up Look Sharp and Holiday and is sure to give the Friday night a dance vibe.
English rock band The Zombies will concrete the festival’s eclectic aims with their best-known oldies including She’s Not There.
More acts will be announced for all stages in the run-up to the festival on July 25–26.
