Missing walker helped down from Merrick by forestry workers

The GallowayMountainRescue Team was called out onMonday by Police Scotland to search for an overdue hiker who had failed to return after a walk on the Merrick.

At about 8.40pm, 14 memebers of the teams from Newton Stewart and Castle Douglas jumped to action to look for the 55-year old man from the North of Englandafter he failed to return to Bruce’s Stone Car Park at Loch Trool.

Team Leader Ken Mackenzie who co-ordinated the search said: “Theconditions on the Merrick were wintryand deteriorating. We met the overdue walker’s companion at Bruce’s Stone and team members started as earch on the popular tourist route path to the summit.

“At about 10.40pm themissing walker was found safe and well being escorteddown the path by two forestry workers.”
