Plans to progress the Kircudbight Charter took a step forward this week after the first stage of an appliction for £9 969,100 of Heritage Lottery funding was approved.
The charter will see a number of changes for the town including transforming the town hall into an art gallery and reshuffling space within St Cuthbert’s Church to allow for community use.
MSP Dr Aileen McLeod said: “I am absolutely delighted at this news.
“The real strength of this project is the fact that it has come from Kirkcudbright itself through the work of Kirkcudbright 2000 and the Kirkcudbright Community Trust. The town hall itself is a fine old public building but its interior is certainly tired.
“This project will also help to promote Kirkcudbright as a visitor destination, capitalising on its artistic heritage and helping to draw many more people to the area.”
