Time Banking is taking hold across the region and Regional Time Banking Co-ordinator Sharon Ogilvie is on the hunt for volunteers and organisations to start banking and sharing their valuable time.

Sharon, from Third Sector First Dumfries and Galloway, is working across the region to develop local Time Banks and she needs volunteer time brokers to help in Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie. She said: “I’m delighted with the progress we have made in setting up Time Banks and I’m now looking for local people to get involved as brokers to support and shape their development.

“Volunteer time brokers will receive special training and ongoing support to help them manage their local time bank. Their valuable contribution will help ensure that time banks are run by local people and shaped to meet the needs of their communities.

“In the Stewartry there’s a growing list of people and organisations offering a wide range of services and more are getting in touch every day. Rainbow Services UK Ltd. in Castle Douglas has offered to let the local time bank use their premises to sign people up and things are gathering pace in Dalbeattie too.”

Sharon is hosting two drop in information sessions at the Castle Douglas Cottage Hospital on Friday 25 April and 2 May. Anyone who is interested should come along to the Rehabilitation Unit entrance from 10.00am 3.00pm for a cup to tea and a chat about time banking.

To become a volunteer time broker or for further information on time banking and details on how to join please visit the website at www.timebankdg.org.uk.
