Police in Dumfries are warning of an alleged scam which has been taking place across the town in relation to a bogus sponsored 10-mile run for charity.
Constable Bruce Shaw, the investigating officer, said: “It appears that a female has been collecting sponsorship money from householders across the town on the pretence of doing a 10-mile run for MacMillan Cancer Research.
“We have arrested one female and she has been bailed to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a future date.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who has recently been approached to donate sponsorship for this 10-mile run for the charity and they should get in touch with me through 101 to provide details.
“Anyone who goes door to door should always have identification relating to themselves and the charity they are collecting for. Householders should not be afraid to ask for such identification, and genuine collectors are never offended when asked.”
