A bid made to Sustrans for funding to allow for repairs to the path between Windsor Road and Ewart Drive in Newton Stewart has been successful.
Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed the news at a meeting of the economy, environment and infrastructure committee on Tuesday.
But a council spokesman said cautiously after the meeting: “Discussions between the council and landowners are still ongoing which could influence final proposals and the deliverability of the scheme.”
Councillor Colin Smyth, committee chair, said: “We are fully committed to improving walking and cycling in the region and I am delighted that funding has been secured for these projects.
“I am hopeful that other projects can be progressed as additional funding becomes available and we can impact positively on the health of the region.”
